Repeated Illegal Roadside Advertising by Tuition Business

Reported via desktop in the Illegal posters category anonymously at 18:12, Sunday 8 June 2025

Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 7678693.

I am writing to formally report an ongoing and serious public safety concern regarding a vehicle engaged in illegal roadside advertising in the Bexleyheath and Dartford area.

The vehicle in question is a silver Mercedes, with a large and elevated rooftop sign advertising Maths and Science tuition – £60 for 3 hours, along with a telephone number.

I have previously reported this issue when the vehicle was parked on Watling Street in Crayford. Since then, I have seen it on Blackfen Road near the Shell petrol station, and again today, parked on Welling High Street, a busy commercial road.

The advertising board is highly distracting due to its size and height, and its presence in high-traffic areas poses a real risk to drivers and pedestrians. It is unlawful to operate a business advertisement in this manner on public highways, especially in such high-risk locations.

This same tuition business has already placed signs in many residential front gardens across the area, and now appears to be expanding its unauthorised advertising through mobile vehicle displays. I am increasingly concerned that if left unchecked, this practice will escalate, encouraging other businesses to follow suit and turning our streets into visual and safety hazards.

This kind of mobile and roadside advertising: • Is likely unauthorised under planning and highways regulations • Creates a dangerous distraction to road users • Undermines the safety and appearance of our local environment

I respectfully urge the Council to investigate this matter as a priority and to take appropriate enforcement action. Preventing further incidents of this nature is essential for safeguarding public safety and preserving order on our roads.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I would appreciate confirmation that my report has been logged and is being reviewed.
