Unsatisfactory cleaning of area with historic waste
Reported via mobile in the Street cleaning and litter category anonymously at 09:55, Monday 1 April 2024
Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 5789708.
This refers to the pathway between Moat Lane and Oak Road.
This area unfortunately is used for general rubbish dumping and fly-tipping. My household has raised this matter on the Fix My Street app previously. This is either ignored or takes an inexorable amount of time for any form of action that never fully resolves the issue. This is carried out haphazardly and although there is improvement the area could not be described as clean on completion. We have witnessed your staff take some items, leaving some behind, and sweeping the debris and dirt on the path into the overgrown green area.
For instance, on the 17th March 24, we saw a lone worker cleaning the area. He managed to collect some cans and other rubbish in 2 half-full bags. As you can see on the photos provided there was a great amount of rubbish left behind, even in the area where the bags were left, there was a considerable amount of rubbish to collect. These photos were taken late on the same date. I personally would have been able to collect that amount in 20min. I am uncertain what the problem could be. If the aim is to clean the area, it is clear that the resources sent to carry out task are not sufficient or the work force is not supervised.
As well as the large items dumped, the area is very dirty with numerous small items such bottles, plastic and other items. Based on the amount and state of these items , it seems that the area hasn’t been maintained or cleaned properly over several years.
This situation is far from ideal and provides a perfect environment for vermin so I don’t understand why more effort is not made to clean, discourage and investigate fly-tipping in order to keep the area clean in so doing providing a clean pleasant healthy and safe environment for all.
We think it would be essential that all large items are removed and the areas is properly cleaned with the picking of other rubbish items laying down amongst the overgrown. Keeping this area clean would, in someway, discourage further fly-tipping.
Please, could you look into this for us and inform us when we could expect further action?
