Broken Branch

Reported via desktop in the Street category anonymously at 13:57, Friday 14 January 2022

Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 3240688.

Large tree directly opposite 15 Orchard Hill

There is a branch of considerable size that is broken and detached from the tree. It is currently in the tree but I suspect any slight wind or heavy rain could cause this branch to fall either onto the parked cars opposite or more likely into the road way.

I would estimate the branch to be between 4 to 6 inches in diameter and 10 to 15 feet long. It will cause damage if it falls on a vehicle or injury if it falls onto a person.

As a side note - this tree forms part of a row of substantial trees which from time to time have been trimmed at the bottom however in the 20 years i have been resident at 15 Orchard Hill the tops of the tree have never received any sort of care or maintenance,

The trees are a considerable height now & produce a significant amount of sap which settles on park cars. They are also blocking the light from the houses in Orchard Hill & causing damp to the front of the properties.

The falling leaves onto the road surface also cause significant traction problems for the cars using Orchard Hill.

I am also concerned about the potential subsidence issues caused by the tree roots systems - it is difficult to estimate the tree height but i would guess at between 50 - 70 feet, Of course any subsidence damage caused by the trees I would hold Bexley council responsible for.

The trees are welcomed & impressive BUT they need care and maintenance to ensure their health and safety to the public.

I look forward to hearing from you as a matter of priority.
