Messy pavements

Reported via desktop in the Street cleaning and litter category anonymously at 21:24, Tuesday 18 May 2021

Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 2734824.

Every year the grass verges in the streets and the parks, is left until it is excessively long before it is cut. Not only does this make the area look incredibly unkempt it causes unnecessary suffering to our pets when the grass seeds embed into their paws/skin often resulting in surgery to remove them. If the grass was cut before it was long and had seeded not only would the roads looks nicer it would be kinder to our pets. I have to spend months avoiding parks and grass verges when walking my dog and when the grass is eventually cut instead of being picked up it is “blown away” by your staff onto the pavements so there’s no escaping the problem

  • Why is the grass left until it is knee high and full of seeds. The only people who benefit from this are vets when they have to do procedures to remove grass seeds from ears, eyes, paws etc. If the council are not prepared to cut the grass verges (and remove the cuttings - it seems they’re not even bothering to blow them back onto the grass now) why not tarmac them - it wouldn’t look any worse!
