The gate for wheelchair users to bypass the park gate does not open
Reported via desktop in the Fences category anonymously at 16:04, Fri 16 April 2021
Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 2675232.
There is a kissing gate at the entrance to Footscray Meadows from Riverside Road, opposite Betterton Drive. The kissing gate is not accessible to wheelchairs/ mobility scooters or larger pushchairs. There is a pedestrian gate next to the kissing gate which I believe is intended to be opened by an NKS RADAR key (as used for accessible toilets) but when I tried it with my key, the gate would not open. There are several similar key-operated gates eg from Rectory Lane, Leafield Lane and which are shown on the park maps as wheelchair accessible, but most appeared to be overgrown and unlikely to open. There is no signage on the gates to indicate that they are NKS RADAR locks.

It obviously needs looking into but unfortunately you have to work on the assumption , someone messes up

The reason this gate doesn’t work is that it has been repeatedly vandalised by motor bike users kicking it open so that they can ride illegally on the Meadows. It is now jammed and needs repairs
