Manhole cover tilting A222 junction Hurst Road and Station Road, Sidcup

Reported via desktop in the Manhole covers category anonymously at 10:41, Saturday 10 April 2021

Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 2663282.

This manhole cover has been a problem for some time as it is gradually tilting due to the volume and weight of the traffic that passes over it. The edge at one side has been temporarily filled several times but this gets lifted out by the constant traffic and is a deep hole again. As it is on the A222 it may cause problems to repair but a more permanent repair is, I feel, required.

  • There is a large hole which was dug out about a week ago at the Station Road/ Hurst Road junction on the main A222 trunk road. To date I have seen no workmen at the site but know that the temporary traffic lights are causing traffic queues all the way from Chislehurst at least. The A222 is an important road coming all the way from Croydon, via Bromley to Bexley.

  • At last, the hole in the road has been filled and the traffic seems to be flowing more normally at the A222 junction at Hurst Road/ Station Road. This hole remained for much of the time without any apparent work from Thames Water. Where were the workers once the substantial hole had been dug??
