Works in the rear alley

Reported via desktop in the Contractor Enquiry/Complaints category anonymously at 14:23, Sunday 31 January 2021

Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later

Dear LBB

On Thursday 29th January 2021 I noticed that a large digger was operating behind my property in the rear alley. Upon venturing out there the digger operator explained that he was clearing the alley in preparation for the erection of a new fence between Martyn Grove Park & the alley. He went on to explain that the council should have contacted all residents to explain what was going on & I agree.

Could you please outline what these works are & whether there is a longer term reason as to why it is now felt a fence is needed between the alley & park?

Currently my rear garage is now exposed directly to the park & I have already witnessed walkers & park goers in the alley which was not an issue previously although I appreciate works can take time.

I look forward to your response.

Many Thanks.

  • Once again we have had council contractors turn up this morning (04/02/2021) with diggers, road rollers and trucks without notifying residents or asking permission to cross or work on our land to carry out work on the lane that they had previously turned into an impassable swamp. We have had no communication from the council regarding putting up new fences around the park or that they would require access through the lane over our property. Please ensure that in future any further work planned affecting our property‚Äôs or land we are given ample notice and seek permission to cross our land.

  • I am concerned that Council is making surface improvements prior to auctioning the Land at site rear of 47 Stephen Road. Most of the path alongside the land for sale is owned by local residents and not the Bexley Council. I would like ask the following questions: 1. Why is Council caring out surface improvement works on private land without owners consents? 2. Why is Council's tendering team making claims of having right of way alongside the whole length of the site?
