Traffic calming needed
Reported in the Other street defect category anonymously at 18:39, Fri 18 September 2020
Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. Report ref: 2301586.
Traffic calming is desperately needed on Erith High Street. Cars come down Walnut Hill at high speed and whip around the corner onto the High Street where there is immediately a pedestrian crossing and, unsurprisingly, pedestrians!
The council is well aware of the speeding problem here as there is frequently a mobile speeding camera where the High Street becomes Bexley Road.
I understand that catching speeders makes money but this should not be at the expense of safety.
This has previously been reported. And ignored.

Had a response finally. The response is that they won't do anything. Problem remains.

New speed limit signs have been put up. This is a one way system and in addition to putting the signs up facing traffic they have also put up a dozen on the same poles as the correct ones) facing the wrong way on a one way street. Neither the correct facing nor incorrect facing signs have slowed traffic. (Shocker I know)

Presumably they are waiting till they re-do Riverside Gardens. In the meantime, good luck trying to cross at the bottom of the hill. May the odds be ever in your favour.
