Large pothole 1m x 50cm on Days Lane near Halfway St

Reported in the Damaged road category anonymously at 22:01, Sunday 21 June 2020

Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later

Large pothole (damaged surface) on Days Lane in southbound direction near Halfway St junction. This is a particular road safety hazard for cyclists because the deep and severe defect is across a large section of the carriageway. To avoid riding across it means moving across the carriageway near the junction with Halfway Street which is a very hazardours manoeuvre given the volume of vehicles, particularly those turning left into Days Lane. I will report this to the police as well. In addition the carriageway of Days Lane has a large number of defects in the section over 50 meters from the junction with Days Lane which are also almost impossible to avoid on bicycle. These defects need to be repaired as a matter of priority.

  • Bexley Council has now been ignoring this defect (and others nearby) for over 4 months. There has been no response from the highways department nor the local councillors - one of whom is the Cabinet Member responsible for highway repairs. Other local authorities (Greenwich and Sevenoaks) bordering Bexley have continued highway maintenance in recent months.
