Litter in Erith Reported anonymously at 08:50, Tue 21 July 2020 I am getting in touch today because I am quite disgusted by the constant littering and overflowing bins in the Erith area and I am hoping you can help sort this out. I am a resident of Lowry Close in Erith. I regularly go for walks in the area and down Thames Path and it’s not uncommon to be greeted with some kind of littering, abandoned items and overflowing bins. Now, I totally understand - humans as a whole need to be responsible for their rubbish, and this is a bigger cultural problem that needs addressing. However, change also starts at the top. I am repeatedly seeing overflowing bins or lack of appropriate bins for people to dispose of rubbish in. If this was more common and bins were regularly emptied, this may help the issue because people could see options to dispose their rubbish, but if bins are flimsy or overflowing, then people may not feel the need to dispose properly. A consistent approach to rubbish and litter in the area is also important for public health, animal welfare and sustainability. But also to give pride to local residents - as it’s depressing seeing the area filled with rubbish! For example, here are some pictures I took from a single 40 minute walk around Erith: As you can see, bins are overflowing and in some places only flimsy bin bags have been casually left on the benches. Personally, I think this is pretty poor behaviour and management and I would like to know how you are addressing this and what you’re going to do to improve these awful sights in the area?
